Agricultural enterprises in the Chita and Uletovsky districts of Trans-Baikal Territory have begun planting potatoes. According to Regional Agriculture Minister Albina Koreshkova, the total potato planting area this year will reach 611 hectares, which is 8% higher than last year’s level. To date, potatoes have been planted on 169 hectares, representing 27% of the planned area. The largest share of planting will be carried out by farms in the Chita district, which plan to harvest from 316 hectares, followed by the Uletovsky district with 198 hectares and the Karymsky district with 52 hectares.
In addition to potatoes, several agricultural organizations in Trans-Baikal Territory have also started planting open-ground vegetables. So far, work has been completed on 11 hectares in the Chita and Uletovsky districts. Carrots and beets traditionally rank among the earliest crops planted.
