Choosing an Economode Potato Chips Line: From a 50 kg/hr Start to a 500 kg/hr Plant
Economode Food Equipment builds potato chips lines at every scale — from a 50 kg/hr batch fryer that gets a new brand to market, to a fully automatic 500 kg/hr plant running an export operation. The advantage isn’t only the machines; it’s that a single manufacturer covers the whole range, so you can buy the right size today and scale later without ever switching suppliers. The only real question is which tier fits your business right now.
Incorporated in 2004 and engineering its lines from a facility in Nashik, Economode has built its reputation on exactly this: a complete ladder of potato chips equipment — batch, semi-automatic and fully automatic — in SS 304 food-grade construction, with multi-fuel flexibility and PLC-controlled continuous frying. That breadth is what lets a producer match capacity to their stage of business instead of over- or under-buying.
Here’s how Economode’s three tiers break down — and who each one is built for.
Tier 01 — Entry
Economode’s batch line · 40–50 kg/hr
Best for: first-time entrants & market testing
Economode’s batch-type chips line — peeler, slicer, hydro machine, fryer and flavouring unit — is the right way to enter. It produces authentic kettle-style chips at 40–50 kg/hr: enough to supply a city, trial flavours, and build a customer base before committing serious capital. It’s a real production line, not a toy — SS 304 food-grade build and multi-fuel flexibility — engineered so nothing you learn here is wasted when you scale up within the same Economode platform.
Tier 02 — Growth
Economode’s fully automatic mini line · 100–200 kg/hr
Best for: brands outgrowing the workshop
When orders outpace the batch fryer, Economode’s mini automatic line at 100 or 200 kg/hr bridges the gap to industrial production. Slicing, washing, frying and seasoning run continuously, with less manual handling and steadier output batch after batch. This is the tier where a kitchen-scale operation becomes a factory — and because it’s the same Economode platform, the move up is an upgrade, not a teardown.
Tier 03 — Industrial
Economode’s fully automatic continuous line · 300–500 kg/hr (up to 1000)
Best for: established & export-volume producers
At serious scale, Economode’s continuous lines run the whole process as one flow — slicing, washing, blanching, continuous frying, cooling, inspection, online seasoning and packing. The continuous frying system is built around an oil-storage tank and heat exchanger, PLC control, automatic oil-level management, laminar oil flow and a high oil-turnover ratio — keeping quality and oil economics steady at hundreds of kilos an hour. Because it’s automated and continuous, it runs on markedly less labour than a batch operation of the same output.
A quick way to choose
›Still proving the product or the market? Start with Economode’s Tier 01 batch line — learn cheaply.
›Orders consistently outstripping a batch fryer? Move to Tier 02 for automation and consistency.
›Supplying retail chains or exporting at volume? You’re in Tier 03 territory.
›Unsure where you’ll be in two years? Buy for today — Economode’s range spans all three tiers, so you scale without switching.
“The smartest producers don’t buy for today’s order book alone — they buy from a maker who can carry them from the first fryer to a full industrial plant.”
Why one maker for every tier matters
Any single machine can be bought anywhere. What’s hard to replace is continuity — and it’s where Economode’s range pays off: the same design language across every stage, one service-and-spares relationship as you grow, and capacity added in steps that match real demand instead of one all-or-nothing leap. A producer who scales from batch to a 500 kg/hr line with Economode never has to relearn the equipment, or gamble on an untested vendor, just because the business succeeded.
