Mongolia has begun its spring sowing campaign, with a total of 44,600 hectares already planted with grains, potatoes, and vegetables as of May 12, according to Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry Tsagaanhuugiin Iderbat. For 2026, the country plans to cultivate 633,400 hectares across all crop categories, including 372,700 hectares of grains, 16,000 hectares of potatoes, 18,300 hectares of vegetables, 121,900 hectares of forage crops, and 104,100 hectares of oilseeds. Currently, spring sowing has been completed on 42,100 hectares of grains, 1,100 hectares of potatoes, 833 hectares of vegetables, and 460 hectares of oilseeds.
As part of the “Virgin Land-4: Sustainable Development of Agriculture” campaign, the government has increased funding for revolving loans to farmers through commercial banks, raising the total to 130 billion tugriks — an increase of 55 billion tugriks — to ensure uninterrupted and accessible financing. Additionally, 15 billion tugriks in investment loans have been allocated to enhance mechanization for potato and vegetable farmers and to support greenhouse production. To date, concessional loans totaling 87.3 billion tugriks have been approved for 521 individuals and legal entities, while applications for 68.87 billion tugriks from 345 applicants are currently under review by commercial banks.
