The first potatoes of the new season have appeared on the shelves of local stores in Astrakhan. The tubers are being packaged in large paper bags and delivered to retail outlets. According to local entrepreneurs, this is locally grown regional produce, though volumes remain limited for now — and nearly all of last year’s harvest has already sold out. The “second bread” harvested this season is in good demand. In neighborhood stores, it is currently being sold at 65–70 rubles per kilogram, though sellers say the price will continue to drop in the near future.
Earlier, the Astrakhan Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs reported that early potatoes from regional farmers would reach store shelves by July 1, based on framework supply agreements signed with wholesale buyers. It is worth noting that the Astrakhan region is one of the country’s leaders in potato cultivation and production. By the end of last year, 465.3 thousand tons were harvested — an increase of 1.2% compared to the previous year.
