Farrukhabad: FIR Filed Against 4 Cold Storage Owners for Flouting Fire Safety Norms — Potatoes of 1,200 Farmers at Risk

In Farrukhabad district, Uttar Pradesh, the District Horticulture Department has registered criminal cases (FIR) against four cold storage owners who failed to submit the required documents proving compliance with fire safety regulations and building strength standards. These facilities currently store potatoes belonging to approximately 1,200 farmers, who now face an uncertain situation regarding the safety of their produce. The action follows a district-wide inspection of all 113 cold storages operating in the area, which function under the Uttar Pradesh Cold Storage Regulation Act of 1976. All operators have been issued notices and directed to ensure proper fire safety arrangements immediately.

District Horticulture Officer Raghavendra Singh confirmed that the inspections were conducted to assess compliance across all facilities. While legal action has been taken against the four non-compliant owners, authorities have warned that strict measures will continue against any violations. The situation highlights the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations in cold storage facilities, as non-compliance not only endangers stored agricultural produce but also puts the livelihoods of hundreds of farmers at stake.
