Farmers in Russia’s Astrakhan region are preparing to harvest young potatoes from 12,000 hectares, according to Governor Igor Babushkin. In total, agricultural producers in the region are cultivating 90,000 hectares this year. The governor emphasized that the hard work of local farmers is the cornerstone of the country’s food security, which is why state support remains strong — approximately 2 billion rubles will be allocated for agricultural development this year.
In one exemplary farm located in the Kharabalinsky district, the harvest of young potatoes is planned for 32 hectares — triple the area compared to last year. The farm currently ships over 70 tons daily and expects to collect a total of 1,200 tons of early potato varieties. State support played a key role in expanding the cultivated area: the farm received a grant of 4 million rubles, which allowed it to purchase two new tractors. Farmers also receive assistance with seed material procurement. In addition to potatoes, the farm grows tomatoes and peppers, with products supplied to local markets and surplus distributed across the country.
