Agricultural organizations in the Minsk Region are making significant progress on the 2026 potato planting campaign, having already planted tubers on 1,580 hectares, which accounts for almost a quarter of the planned 6,600 hectares. This year’s allocated area in the region exceeds last year’s by 1,000 hectares. Nationwide, farms aim to harvest one million tons of potatoes, which is 168,000 tons more than in 2025. This ambitious target is expected not only to fully satisfy domestic market demand but also to enable substantial exports.
A prime example of the campaign’s momentum is the “Mashpishcheprod” open joint-stock company in the Pukhovichi District, home to one of the largest potato plantations in the region. Out of the 760 hectares dedicated to potatoes at this enterprise, 440 had already been planted by yesterday. The company both grows and processes potatoes, which dictates a specific technology: they avoid using organic fertilizers because excess sugar from organics is undesirable for producing chips and other processed goods, relying instead on mineral fertilizers. Planting began on April 15, and all operations are fully mechanized, using high-capacity eight-row and four-row planters. With strong technical resources, the farm plans to complete planting by May 9.
