Early Potato Harvest Begins in Stavropol Region: Over 1,700 Tonnes Collected So Far
The early potato harvest has commenced in the Stavropol Region, with the first 1,700 tonnes of tubers already collected in the Krasnogvardeysky District. According to regional Governor Vladimir Vladimirov, farmers have achieved an average yield of over 26 centners (2.6 tonnes) per hectare. In 2026, potatoes are being cultivated on a total area exceeding 6,200 hectares across the region, and additional farms from other municipalities are set to join the harvesting efforts in the coming days.
The early start to the season allows local agricultural producers to promptly supply fresh produce to domestic markets and build reserves for further deliveries. Given the substantial cultivated area, the Stavropol Region traditionally ranks among the key potato-producing areas in Southern Russia. This year’s yield figures further confirm the effectiveness of modern agrotechnologies and favorable weather conditions, reinforcing the region’s vital role in ensuring food stability across the country.
