Indonesia: Dr Meksy Dianawati, Whose Aeroponic Research Lifted Seed Potato Yield by 55%, on the Potato Expert Panel

Dr Meksy Dianawati of Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), a specialist in seed potato production and aeroponics, is a member of the Potato Expert Panel by Potatoes.News.

Dr Meksy Dianawati, a researcher at Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), is a member of the Potato Expert Panel by Potatoes.News. Her work focuses on seed potato production, aeroponic cultivation, breeding and agronomic practices to raise potato productivity.

Aeroponics and cultivar-specific responses

Dianawati’s research looks at how to optimise seed potato production through innovative cultivation technologies, how different cultivars respond to environmental conditions, and how improved crop management can raise yields.

Her poster at the World Potato Congress in Kenya showed this approach in practice: in aeroponic seed production, extra light lifted the yield of the cultivar Atlantic Malang by 55%, while other cultivars responded differently. Areas of expertise

  • Aeroponic cultivation
  • Potato breeding
  • Agronomic practices and sustainable production technologies

WHY IT MATTERS

Aeroponics is one of the fastest ways to produce disease-free minitubers, but results depend on the cultivar and growing conditions. For seed producers in Asia, Africa and beyond, research that shows which technique works for which variety helps avoid costly mistakes when investing in new seed production units. Similar technology has grown into a national system in Rwanda.

Join the panel

Potatoes.News invites potato professionals from any country to join the Potato Expert Panel.
