The average wholesale price of Spunta potatoes sold at stalls in the Mercado Central de Buenos Aires rose from ARS 18,000 to ARS 21,000 per 18-kilo bag during September 2026, a monthly increase of 16.7 per cent, according to Argenpapa's own records of daily prices and truck arrivals at the market.
Expressed per kilogram, the reference value moved from ARS 1,000 to ARS 1,166.67, a nominal gain of ARS 3,000 per bag over the month.

The recovery built up week by week. September opened at ARS 18,000 per bag for brushed Spunta from the Sudeste bonaerense. On September 7, with 102 trucks traded — roughly 153,000 bags — the average climbed to ARS 19,000, before slipping back to ARS 18,000 on September 14, a session with 72 trucks.
In the second half of the month, potatoes from Tucumán gained share and became the reference origin for stall quotations. On September 21, with 96 trucks traded, Tucumán potatoes averaged ARS 21,000 per bag, within a range of ARS 20,000 to ARS 22,000. The level held through the final week: on September 28, 85 trucks changed hands at an unchanged average of ARS 21,000.
Other presentations also recovered. In the potato shed, unbrushed potatoes from the Sudeste bonaerense rose from ARS 14,500 to ARS 17,000 per bag (+17.2 per cent), while brushed potatoes from the same origin went from ARS 17,000 to ARS 19,500 (+14.7 per cent). Differences by origin, quality, washing and presentation remained.
Context matters here. September's rise only partly reversed August's steep fall, when the average stall price had dropped from ARS 27,000 to ARS 18,000 per bag. The September close remained 22.2 per cent below the level seen at the start of August.
How October develops will depend mainly on the pace of arrivals, the share of each producing region and wholesale demand.
