Organisers of the Horticultural and Floricultural Census of Buenos Aires Province 2026 are calling specifically on potato growers of the Sudeste bonaerense — the province's main potato belt — to take part in the survey before it closes on October 31, 2026.
The census, the first of its kind in the province in 20 years, began on September 1 and is run by the Ministry of Agrarian Development of Buenos Aires Province. More than 140 accredited enumerators are collecting data on production, planted area, irrigation systems and technology across the horticultural sector.

High participation is considered essential to size the potato sector correctly and prevent its weight from being underestimated in provincial statistics. The organisers stress that all growers must be included regardless of how they operate: even when a producer does not live on the farm or rents different plots each year, that production must be recorded.
The interview takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and the grower can agree with the enumerator on when and where to complete it. The information provided is anonymous, confidential and protected by statistical secrecy.
Growers can contact the enumerators directly via WhatsApp to coordinate the survey. For the districts of Benito Juárez, Gonzales Chaves, San Cayetano, Necochea, Lobería and General Alvarado, the responsible enumerator is Erica (+54 2234 56-1628); for Azul, Tandil and Balcarce, Daniela (+54 2235 45-4324).
The Sudeste bonaerense is Argentina's most important ware potato region: planted area there fell by about 12 per cent in the 2025/26 season, from 38,177 to 33,722 hectares, according to industry estimates — one reason why accurate census data matters for planning and policy design. Complete data will allow the province to know the sector's structure more precisely and to base horticultural policy on reliable figures.
Growers not yet surveyed are asked to contact the enumerator for their zone and complete the interview before October 31.
