The Uiseong County 4-H Federation in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, has launched a large-scale community potato planting initiative on a 5,900-square-meter joint project field in Hahwa-ri, Danchon-myeon. Approximately 20 members gathered early in the morning to plant seed potatoes, continuing their extensive preparations that began earlier this month. The young farmers have been working together on every stage of the process, including cutting seed potatoes, laying plastic mulch, forming ridges, leveling the soil, and applying fertilizer to ensure a successful harvest.
The potatoes harvested in June will be donated to vulnerable groups in the region, including elderly citizens living alone and low-income families. This effort is part of the federation’s ongoing commitment to community service — last year, the group donated 300 heads of cabbage to three welfare facilities. Uiseong County Mayor Kim Joo-soo praised the young farmers, stating that their dedication to sharing and service through the joint project field is deeply meaningful. With approximately 40 members, the Uiseong County 4-H Federation continues to strengthen agricultural capabilities while practicing the organization’s core principles of head, heart, hands, and health through regular volunteer activities.
