Since the beginning of 2026, Russia has imported 216,000 tons of potatoes, which is 20% less than during the same period last year, according to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. The ministry attributed this decline to the high potato yield harvested in 2025. Officials noted a clear trend of decreasing reliance on foreign supplies, with current import volumes significantly lower than in previous years.
The ministry added that in 2025, Russia achieved strong results in vegetable and potato production — 7.6 million tons of vegetables and 8.5 million tons of potatoes, respectively. These record harvests have helped stabilize the domestic market and reduce the need for imported produce, as reflected in the import data from the first months of 2026.
