Employees of the Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev, for the first time in Russia, a hybrid of onion F1 Resistor genetically resistant to downy mildew (peronosporosis) was created. Such a bow will be available to any summer resident, farmer and agronomist of the agricultural holding and guarantees maximum yield.

03 December / 2022
According to the head of the Department of Botany, Breeding and Seed Production of Horticultural Plants of the University of Sokrat Grigorievich Monakhos, disease-resistant hybrids are the most important achievement of domestic breeding, which will eliminate multiple treatments with fungicides, reduce the pesticide load on the agroecosystem and increase the economic efficiency of onion cultivation.

F1 Rezistor combines genetic resistance to downy mildew with a complex of economically valuable traits and is suitable for cultivation in many regions of Russia. The planned yield of the hybrid is at least 100 tons per hectare. F1 Resistor seeds will be available to buyers immediately after the registration of the hybrid in the State Register of the Russian Federation.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the use of imported onion seeds in our country has recently been more than 70%. At the same time, it is important to note that not a single foreign hybrid with genetic resistance to peronosporosis has been registered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements.

  • Plant resistance to harmful diseases is very relevant for both amateur vegetable growers and producers. For example, the onion hybrid “Resistor” is resistant to downy mildew and root phomosis. Previously, it was believed that it was impossible to create a high-yielding onion with resistance to this disease, – said S.G. Monachos.
