Biography
Dr Norman Muzhinji is a Senior Lecturer in Plant Pathology at the University of the Free State (UFS), South Africa, where he leads the Soil Microbial Ecology Research Group. He is a plant pathologist and microbial ecologist whose research focuses on microbial ecology-driven solutions for sustainable plant health and disease management.
His work addresses important fungal pathogens, including Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium spp., Alternaria spp. and Neopestalotiopsis spp., affecting potato, strawberry and other horticultural crops. He integrates plant–microbe interactions, microbial genomics, metagenomics, bioinformatics and microbial community ecology to harness beneficial microorganisms for biological control, plant growth promotion and improved soil health.
His research aims to develop sustainable microbial solutions that reduce crop losses, complement chemical disease management, improve crop productivity and enhance farmers’ profitability.
