The world’s leading manufacturer of hygienic stainless-steel components, the Danish company
NGI, are turning its attention on two typical weak spots in the hygienic chain; castors and
bearing houses

For more than 25 years, the Danish company NGI has developed stainless steel solutions for
hygienic production lines. Up until now they have focused primarily on static solutions such as
levelling feet, but now they have decided to apply their knowledge, know-how and research to the
area of moving parts. And they start with castors and bearing houses.

Our research and dialogue with customers/partners all over the world have identified bearing
houses and castors as two weak points in many production facilities. They’re difficult to clean.
They are a critical source of cross contamination. And they break down due to wear and tear,
explains Jan Nygaard, Managing Director of NGI

The problems, that moving parts represent, are one reason, NGI has decided to tackle this issue.
Another is, that they have the know-how and innovative power to solve the hygienic pitfalls
currently related to these product groups.

With this latest innovation NGI has challenged the assumption that a highly hygienic production
setup can include open bearing houses.

Actually, closed bearing houses proved to be the right way to go. It’s not just a matter of
improved serviceability and cleanability. Bearings in open houses has a much shorter life and they
are also constantly exposed to much more dirt and bacteria, states Jan Nygaard.

Following USDA, EHEDG and 3-A design principles

NGI takes castors and bearing houses to a new hygienic level. NGI is known as a market leader due
to their line of certified hygienic stainless-steel components. But their reputation isn’t solely built
on their products, it is built on holistic solutions. They strive to have a 360-degree Knowledge
Sharing Partnership-approach to hygiene, innovation and market needs.

Moving unto moving parts, NGI has managed to set new standards already.

Both bearing houses and castors are patented and designed following USDA, EHEDG and 3-A
design principles. Furthermore, both products are designed for easy installation as a plug n play
solution that can substitute current uncertified components.

Hygienic design is more important now than ever before, and we don’t just want to make the
right solutions. We want to make them easy to use as well. We are proud to take part in the fight
for improved hygiene around the globe and believe that our newest additions in the product line
also contributes greatly in this manner, says Jan Nygaard.
