Moscow Oblast reported a sharp increase in its potato harvest in early September 2026, with 19,500 tonnes collected by 3 September. Harvesting had been carried out on 1,300 hectares, or 11.7% of the planned area, at an average yield of 252 centners per hectare — significantly above the 192 centners per hectare recorded a year earlier. The gross harvest exceeded the same period in 2025 by 52%. The city district of Kolomna led among municipalities with more than 7,200 tonnes collected, while major farms in the region include OOO “Sergievskoye,” AO “Ozyory,” and AO “Severka.”

A key development in September was the certification of 11 potato varieties of domestic selection grown in protected ground at an enterprise in Dmitrov Municipal District. Specialists from the Moscow Oblast branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Rosselkhoztsentr” evaluated registered varieties “Karmen,” “Atletik,” “Sarmat,” “Indigo,” and “Agronavt,” along with six promising samples still at the breeding trial stage. The assessment covered varietal purity, general plant condition, and the presence of diseases and pests. According to Rosselkhoztsentr, domestic varieties “Varyag,” “Karmen,” and “Flamingo” stand out in the region for their high yield potential and good marketable qualities. Governor Andrey Vorobyov has stated that the region’s main goal is to ensure Russia’s independence from imported seeds and build its own seed base, including certified seed potatoes. In 2026, 648 million rubles were allocated to support potato and vegetable production in Moscow Oblast, with 149 farmers receiving support since the start of the year.
