Kochubeyevsky District Targets 7,000 Tons of Potatoes for Chips and Fries Production
Farmers in the Kochubeyevsky District of Stavropol Krai are making strong early progress in this year’s potato harvest, with 21.4 hectares already dug and roughly 900 tons of root vegetables collected, according to municipal data. The district, a long-standing leader in potato production in the region, achieves consistently high yields through carefully selected varieties, modern agricultural techniques, and the skill of its workforce. This season, local growers have set an ambitious goal of harvesting up to 7,000 tons of potatoes, with the entire crop destined for processing into chips and French fries. The exceptional quality of the locally grown tubers makes the crop highly profitable and continues to attract strong interest from food processing companies.
Last year, Kochubeyevsky ranked first in the region for potato output—a feat that local authorities attribute to daily dedication and smart farming practices. Head of the district Oleg Borzov expressed confidence that this season’s early results confirm the territory’s high potential and that the district will maintain its leading position, supplying processors with premium-grade raw materials. A key factor behind the success is the widespread use of modern irrigation systems, which ensure consistent watering throughout the growing season, boosting both productivity and the final quality of the produce. With full-scale harvesting underway, the district is on track to meet its targets and reinforce its reputation as a powerhouse of Stavropol agriculture.
