Khabarovsk Farmers Expand Potato and Vegetable Production with State Support

Farmers in Russia’s Khabarovsk Krai are significantly boosting their output of potatoes and vegetables, driven by state subsidies and ambitious expansion plans. One notable example is Roman Masyutin, a farmer from the village of Sokolovka, who tripled his cultivated area for potatoes and vegetables within just one year of launching his farm. Using Russian-produced seed potatoes and benefiting from government cost reimbursement for seed purchases, Masyutin has already achieved strong results. He now plans to build a storage facility and a processing and packaging workshop, which would allow him to supply regional retail chains under the local brand “Made in Khabarovsk Krai.”

This growth aligns with the regional government’s strategy to boost local food production. Governor Dmitry Demeshin has instructed the regional Ministry of Agriculture to actively support vegetable growers, aiming to provide residents with fresh, locally grown products at affordable prices. By reducing reliance on long-distance deliveries, the initiative not only lowers final retail costs but also creates jobs and strengthens the regional economy. Demeshin emphasized that continued support for farmers is key to expanding the presence of local goods on store shelves and ensuring long-term food security in the region.
