In 2026, the Kaliningrad Region plans to allocate more than 4,000 hectares for potatoes and over 1,000 hectares for vegetables, according to the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture. The largest potato planting areas have been assigned to farmers in the Bagrationovsky (over 1,200 hectares), Nesterovsky (more than 870 hectares), and Slavsky (over 460 hectares) districts. Officials note that current acreage is sufficient to meet the population’s needs, and no further expansion is required.
The sowing of vegetables and late potatoes will continue until at least mid-June. Some farms have already completed planting, while others are actively working on it, the Ministry added. Previously, regional agricultural authorities stated that the existing potato planting areas fully cover local demand, eliminating the need for additional land expansion.
