Heidesand Opens State-of-the-Art Potato Packing Facility: A Milestone for the Industry

Neuenkirchen/Berlin – Marking a significant step forward for the potato sector, Heidesand Raiffeisen-Warengenossenschaft eG officially opened its new potato packing facility on August 21, 2026. The German Potato Trade Association (DKHV) praised this substantial investment as a clear commitment to the future of the industry.

The new facility represents one of the largest single investments in Heidesand’s history. Spanning an impressive hall area of approximately 10,000 square meters, the plant features cutting-edge technology for processing and packaging both potatoes and onions. The facility is equipped with automated sorting, washing, and packaging processes, seamlessly integrated with advanced robotics to maximize efficiency.

Maren Schröder-Meyer, Chairwoman of the Board at Heidesand RWG, highlighted the strategic importance of the site: “With the new packing facility, we are creating the conditions to process and market potatoes and onions even more efficiently and with a stronger focus on quality in the future. At the same time, we are strengthening our location, our cooperation with agricultural businesses, and our competitiveness for the coming years”.

From the perspective of the DKHV, the new site perfectly exemplifies the ongoing technological advancement in potato trading and marketing. Modern sorting and packaging technologies empower companies to maintain rigorous quality standards, optimize processing times, and remain flexible when responding to dynamic market and customer demands.

Dr. Illya Kolba, who took office as the new Managing Director of the DKHV on August 1, 2026, emphasized the broader industry implications during the opening event: “An investment of this magnitude is an impressive signal. The new packing facility exemplifies a development that occupies many of our members: The demands on quality, efficiency, logistics, delivery capacity, and flexibility are continuously increasing. Companies must find their own entrepreneurial answers to these challenges. An investment of this scale is also a clear commitment to the location and to the potato industry”.

Beyond the technological upgrades, the investment is strategically designed to secure long-term regional cooperative collaboration and to strengthen the Neuenkirchen location. The DKHV formally congratulated Heidesand RWG on the successful opening, recognizing the project as a vital contribution to the continued development of Germany as a premier location for the potato economy.
