The Ulyanovsk region has been recognized as one of the most affordable areas in Russia for purchasing ingredients needed to prepare a traditional dish — fried potatoes. According to a study by the Center for Agroanalytics (a subordinate institution of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture), the region secured an honorable second place in the national ranking. Experts analyzed the cost of key ingredients — potatoes and sunflower oil — and found that Ulyanovsk region, along with Tatarstan and Bashkortostan, recorded the lowest prices per liter of sunflower oil in the country.
In the final top-5 regions with the lowest total cost for the ingredient set, Ulyanovsk region took second place, trailing only Mordovia. The top five also included Bashkortostan, Penza region, and Tatarstan. This means that residents of these regions can prepare fried potatoes at a lower cost compared to the rest of Russia.
