Tajikistan Reports Strong Growth in Potato and Vegetable Production in First Half of 2026
Tajikistan has recorded a notable increase in potato and vegetable output during the first six months of 2026, according to data released by the country’s Agency for Statistics under the President. From January to June, all categories of agricultural holdings produced 286,040 tonnes of potatoes, marking a 6.8% rise compared to the same period in 2025. Vegetable production reached 1,281,500 tonnes, reflecting a 5.3% year-on-year increase, with onions—a key crop—growing by an impressive 9.9% to 429,350 tonnes. The growth in these staple crops stands in contrast to declines observed in certain other plant-based agricultural products, underscoring a mixed performance across the sector during the reporting period.
Beyond potatoes and vegetables, Tajikistan also harvested significant volumes of other horticultural crops in the first half of 2026. Melon and gourd production totalled 565,570 tonnes, while fruit output reached 258,710 tonnes, including 25,840 tonnes of apples and 119,870 tonnes of apricots. Grape production amounted to 2,910 tonnes, and forage crops—measured in feed units—reached 443,790 tonnes. The positive trends in potato and vegetable production highlight the resilience of these essential food crops, which play a vital role in domestic food security and rural livelihoods, even as overall agricultural diversification efforts continue to face challenges in other subsectors.
