Russian Farmers and Seed Multipliers Exchange Experiences with Mahindra HZPC

In recent months, a group of Russian farmers and plant breeders visited India’s Mahindra HZPC. The aim of this exchange was to share knowledge and experience in potato breeding and cultivation, as well as to discuss issues faced by Indian and Russian potato growers.

Mahindra HZPC specializes in producing high-quality seed potatoes, and the Russian visitors were keen to learn about their cultivation techniques. The Indian company follows European methods of potato growing, which sparked a lively discussion about the similarities and differences between the two regions’ agronomic practices.

One of the major topics of discussion was the current state of potato production in Russia, where overproduction has led to a significant drop in prices. Mr. Kovalev, a Russian potato expert, presented a detailed report on the current situation, highlighting the need for structural changes in the industry.

As the world continues to face the challenges of climate change and food security, the focus on potatoes is shifting towards production for processing and other value-added uses. This trend is evident in both India and Russia, as consumers are increasingly seeking healthier and more sustainable options.

By fostering international collaboration and exchange of knowledge, we can ensure that potato production continues to thrive, even amidst the challenges of a changing climate. As we move forward, it is crucial that we continue to innovate and adapt, drawing on the expertise of our global partners to ensure the long-term success of our industries.
