Russia: Weekly Potato Prices Fall 3.1% as New Harvest Arrives

Russian potato prices declined by 3.1% in the week of 8–14 September 2026, according to Rosstat data published on 16 September. The drop, recorded within the so-called “borscht basket” of staple vegetables, reflects the seasonal influx of the new harvest onto the domestic market, which has eased supply conditions and pushed retail prices lower.

The decline stands in sharp contrast to the supply deficit and rising prices seen across Europe, where drought and reduced acreage have tightened the processing potato market. This divergence provides a supportive backdrop for Russia’s domestic market, at least in the short term, though the longer-term picture will depend on the pace of harvesting, storage conditions and any changes in trade flows.
