Russia: Sergey Averin, Seed Potato Specialist Turned Chip Raw-Material Adviser, Joins the Potato Expert Panel

Sergey Sergeevich Averin, an agronomist from Kostroma and now based in Voronezh, has joined the Potato Expert Panel by Potatoes.News. He has 11 years of experience in seed potato production and now works on potato processing, including chips.

From seed farm to chip line

Averin worked at a seed potato farm before moving into processing. His current focus is on the raw material requirements of chip production, potato quality parameters and the link between crop management and the technological properties of the tuber. He wants to combine his seed production experience with the requirements of processors.

WHY IT MATTERS

For processors, the quality of the raw potato decides yield, colour and oil uptake in the finished product. For seed producers, the same tuber traits start on the farm, years before harvest. A specialist who has worked on both sides of this link can show where the chain breaks. Averin joins the panel alongside Navid Suthar of M S International and Harsh Patel of Potato Intel, who were introduced earlier.
