Russia has reduced its potato imports by 20% since the beginning of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture cited by TASS. The total volume of imported potatoes reached approximately 216 thousand tons. The ministry noted a clear trend toward decreasing shipments of potatoes from abroad over the current year.
Officials also recalled that a law on agro-aggregators came into force last year. These aggregators help small-scale domestic producers supply their goods directly to retail chains, thereby supporting local agriculture and reducing dependence on foreign imports. The mechanism is seen as a key factor in strengthening the position of Russian farmers and promoting food self-sufficiency.
