Agricultural producers in Primorye have exceeded their potato planting plan by 7%, cultivating a total of 2,600 hectares—107% of the target. The highest planting density was recorded in Oktyabrsky Municipal District, where 575 hectares were dedicated to potato production, according to the regional Ministry of Agriculture.
This achievement is particularly notable given the broader context of global potato production trends. According to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), global potato yields have been increasing at an average rate of 1.5% annually, driven by improved farming techniques and resilient crop varieties. Russia, as one of the top five potato producers worldwide, plays a crucial role in maintaining food security.
Corn Sowing Completed Despite Weather Challenges
In addition to potatoes, Primorye’s farmers have successfully completed corn sowing across 106,000 hectares, despite facing unfavorable weather conditions. Corn remains a key export crop for Russia, with 2023 data from the USDA showing that Russia exported over 4 million tons of corn, reinforcing its position as a major player in the global grain market.
The agricultural sector in Primorye demonstrates remarkable adaptability, achieving record potato planting figures and maintaining steady corn production despite climatic hurdles. These results align with global agricultural trends, where efficiency and resilience are becoming increasingly critical. Continued investment in modern farming techniques, drought-resistant crops, and precision agriculture could further enhance yields and sustainability in the region.
