Potatoes With Purpose: Alabama BBQ Chain Aims for Guinness World Record to Support Foster Children

This Sunday, LawLers Barbecue is inviting the community to the Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville for “Potatoes With Purpose”—a free baked potato event with an ambitious goal: breaking the Guinness World Record for the most baked potatoes served in eight hours. The current record stands at 3,784 pounds of potatoes, set in Peru back in 2012, and organizers plan to serve 5,000 of their signature Super Stuffie Taters topped with pulled pork. While entry and the potatoes are completely free, guests are encouraged to donate the cost of a typical lunch to Kids to Love, a nonprofit that has been supporting children in foster care and young adults aging out of the system since 2004. The event runs from noon to 4:00 PM or until supplies run out, and every potato eaten officially counts toward the record attempt.

Beyond the record-breaking excitement, the initiative reflects a deeper community mission. Kids to Love provides school supplies, Christmas gifts, education, job training, childcare, and adoption services, and operates Davidson Farms for girls in foster care, Whitaker Cottage Community for young women, and the KTECH vocational training center. LawLers President Scott Black emphasized that while the world record is a fun draw, the real goal is demonstrating what the community can achieve together for vulnerable children and families. With free food and a chance to make history, “Potatoes With Purpose” turns a simple Sunday meal into a powerful act of giving—proving that the opportunity to change lives is truly priceless.
