Potato planting season is underway, and the latest USDA Potato Progress & Condition Report Week Ending: 5-6-2023 shows promising progress in some regions. While USDA is not reporting any spring potato planting in North Dakota, some growers have already started planting. Meanwhile, Minnesota has made significant progress, with 16% of potato planting already completed, compared to just 2% last year. Although slightly behind the 5-year average of 21%, this progress is still a positive sign for the upcoming potato season.

According to the USDA report, other regions such as Idaho, Maine, and Wisconsin have not yet started planting. However, with the season just beginning, there is still plenty of time for progress to be made. The report also notes that soil moisture levels are generally good, which is essential for successful potato growth.
