Advancing the Potato Industry with Live Machinery Demonstrations, Expert Discussions, and Cutting-Edge Innovations

The inaugural Potato Days UK event, held on September 4-5, 2024, in Nocton, Lincolnshire, presents a significant opportunity for potato growers, agronomists, industry professionals, and researchers. Organized by the DLG (German Agricultural Society), the event spans over 20 hectares and focuses on practical solutions for the potato industry. Attendees will witness live demonstrations of advanced machinery, featuring crucial agricultural processes such as weed control, harvesting, cleaning, and loading.

This two-day event also includes nearly 100 exhibitors showcasing innovations across all aspects of potato cultivation, from agronomy to storage solutions. These exhibitors will present the latest advancements in crop nutrition, fertilizer management, and sustainable practices, addressing key challenges facing the industry today.

Potato Days UK is further enhanced by an in-depth professional programme featuring 25 expert speakers. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, from policy impacts on farming practices to sustainability and efficiency improvements. Industry leaders such as former DEFRA Minister George Eustice, HSBC’s Grace O’Dwyer, and Mark Taylor, Chair of GB Potatoes, will share their insights on how policy and innovation can shape the future of the potato industry.

Live Machinery Demonstrations: A Key Attraction

One of the highlights of the event is the live machinery demonstrations on 12 hectares of specially planted crop. Manufacturers such as Einböck, AVR, Dewulf, Grimme, and Standen will demonstrate their latest models for harvesting, mechanical weed control, and loading, offering a unique opportunity for attendees to see these machines in action. These demonstrations are supported by leading brands, including John Deere, Claas, and Ben Burgess, ensuring the highest standards of performance and reliability.

The event also includes crop trials, allowing visitors to explore new technologies in weed reduction, crop protection, and innovative irrigation systems. This hands-on approach enables professionals to discuss field results directly with experts, providing valuable insights into the future of potato cultivation.

Networking and Knowledge Exchange

Beyond the machinery demonstrations, Potato Days UK serves as a key networking hub for professionals across the potato value chain. The event offers an ideal setting for building business relationships, exchanging knowledge, and discovering new market opportunities. Large-scale potato growers, including James Harrison and Andrew Webster, emphasize the importance of such gatherings in driving innovation and efficiency within the industry.

As the industry looks towards the future of potato growing, events like Potato Days UK play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. Attendees are encouraged to participate in discussions, learn from expert panels, and explore the latest technological advancements to enhance their operations and contribute to a sustainable future for the industry.

Event Registration

Potato Days UK is free for all attendees, with prior registration required. Visitors can register online, presenting their digital ticket at the entrance for scanning. The event aims to ensure that UK and Irish potato growers have full access to the resources and expertise needed to stay competitive and sustainable in an evolving industry.
