Palbongsan Potato Festival in Seosan – A Must-Visit Summer Rural Experience in Chungnam

The 25th annual Palbongsan Potato Festival will take place on June 20–21 at the Palbongsan Eoullim Madang in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. Since its launch in 2002, the festival has grown into one of the country’s premier summer rural tourism events. The Palbongsan potatoes, grown in sandy loam soil and nourished by sea breezes from Garorim Bay, are renowned for their premium quality—becoming the first potatoes in Korea to receive a geographical indication certification. The highly popular Sumi variety, prized for its soft, fluffy texture, takes center stage at the festival, drawing visitors from across the nation.

The highlight of the event is undoubtedly the potato digging experience, where visitors can pick their own freshly harvested potatoes and take them home. This program consistently receives the most enthusiastic response from family visitors each year. Participation is available through on-site registration at 8,000 won for 5 kg or 14,000 won for 10 kg, with collection bags, hoes, and gloves provided on-site. The festival also features a food market offering a variety of potato dishes such as steamed potatoes and potato pancakes, alongside a farm products market where local specialties like garlic and onions are sold at below-market prices. Additional attractions include instant auctions of agricultural products and performances by local artists, creating a vibrant mix of sights, flavors, and hands-on activities.
