Orion’s Potato Snack Sales Nearing 1 Trillion KRW as Global Demand Surges
Orion Corporation is on the verge of achieving 1 trillion KRW in annual potato snack sales, with the category generating 874 billion KRW last year—73% of which came from international markets. The company has sustained an average annual growth rate of 9% over the past three years, driven by product localization and strong production competitiveness. Among Orion’s nine global mega-brands exceeding 100 billion KRW in yearly revenue, four are potato-based snacks: Pocachip, Oh! Gamja, Swing Chip, and Yegam. Currently, the company offers six potato snack brands across South Korea, China, and Vietnam, with over 70 flavor varieties. Unlike conventional snacks, these products contain a higher proportion of whole potato ingredients and undergo minimal processing, aligning with rising consumer demand for healthier options and fueling rapid expansion in global markets.
Regional Success and Future Expansion:
In China, the Oh! Gamja brand alone recorded 260 billion KRW in sales last year, while Swing Chip surpassed Choco Pie revenues in Q1 of this year, becoming Orion’s second-best-performing brand in the market. Potato snacks collectively accounted for 41% of Orion China’s total 2024 revenue, driving overall corporate growth, with Q1 2025 sales up 21% year-on-year. In Vietnam, Pocachip (localized as Ostar) has maintained the No. 1 market share since 2017, outperforming global leader Lay’s. To capitalize on peak summer demand, Orion is launching fresh-harvest potato versions in Korea while rolling out locally tailored new products in China and Vietnam. With the completion of expanded production lines at its Cheongju factory (50% capacity increase) and additional Swing Chip lines in China (25% supply boost) in the second half of the year, Orion aims to strengthen its competitive edge through R&D capabilities and localized infrastructure, positioning itself against global rivals with differentiated snack offerings.
