The 16th Okcheon Corn and Potato Festival “Perfume Okcheon” will take place from July 17 to 18 in Guide-myeon, Okcheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. This vibrant event aims to highlight the superior quality of locally grown corn and potatoes while revitalizing the regional economy through tourism and direct sales. The festival program features an opening ceremony, a traditional long potato peeling competition (Konpoga-yoje), and entertaining contests like ice-eating corn challenges. Visitors can also enjoy tasting and purchasing fresh corn and potatoes, participate in corn harvesting activities, and engage in family-friendly craft workshops, such as making necklaces from natural materials. These diverse activities offer guests of all ages a chance to immerse themselves in the rustic charm of Korean rural life while celebrating the abundance of the summer harvest.
The festival organizing committee has prioritized visitor comfort and safety by preparing heat protection measures, including air-conditioned shelters to provide relief during periods of intense summer heat. Festival Chairman Lee Seung-jae expressed his hope that attendees would enjoy the fresh produce, diverse experiences, and lively performances, while truly feeling the enchanting appeal of the countryside. The “Perfume Okcheon” festival not only serves as a platform for local farmers to showcase their high-quality seasonal vegetables but also strengthens community bonds and promotes agricultural sustainability. Residents and tourists alike are warmly invited to join this two-day celebration, create lasting memories in the scenic landscapes of Okcheon, and support local agriculture by savoring the authentic flavors of Korea’s summer bounty.
