Netherlands: Potato Exports Rise 12.6% as Belgium Boosts Purchases by Nearly 30%
Belgium remained the top buyer, lifting imports 29.7%, while shipments to Germany fell by more than half amid a reduced Northwest European harvest.
Dutch potato exports rose 12.6% in the 2026 season to date (through 30 September), reaching 147,956 tonnes versus 131,388 tonnes a year earlier, Potato News Today reported on 27 October 2026, as Belgium and France increased purchases amid a reduced Northwest European harvest.
Belgium remained the largest buyer, importing 90,895 tonnes — up 29.7% and accounting for about 61% of total Dutch exports — while France’s purchases rose roughly 81% to 16,925 tonnes. Shipments to Germany fell 51.2% to 7,737 tonnes. The report noted that a smaller regional crop raises concerns about meeting processing specifications later in the season.
