Stavropol Krai is not only a grain-producing region but also a potato-growing powerhouse. There are areas where potatoes grow just as well as in Belarus. The traditional centers of potato farming in the region are the stanitsas of Borgustanskaya and Suvorovskaya, the village of Vinsady, and the khutor of Novoborgustansky. This year, agricultural producers in the Predgorny District have increased their potato acreage by 20 percent. The majority of the land dedicated to potatoes is planted by family farms, which grow more than 30 different potato varieties.
The high taste qualities of the Stavropol potato have been appreciated not only by local residents but also by other Russian regions, which actively purchase the product. With an expanded growing area and a rich selection of varieties, Stavropol’s potato growers are strengthening the region’s reputation as a leading potato production hub in southern Russia.
