Following a huge contract with Tesco that Comber-based Mash Direct negotiated, families and individuals in England and Wales can now enjoy beer battered chips and onion rings with chili baby potato bakes from Northern Ireland (NI).

The Co Down farm-based company has grown into a pioneer in “field to fork” goods, especially potato products, in the UK and Ireland. The Hamilton family-owned, the innovation-driven company has transformed the potato business, one of the most significant agri-food industries in Northern Ireland (NI), by developing a variety of unique products for home chefs, including pre-packaged thin fries and beer-battered fries.

The firm recently revealed that it expects to harvest up to 30% more potatoes this year than in previous years, thanks to carefully planned planting of the proper types and a fortuitous mix of sunshine and precipitation, according to News Letter.

Sales of the Mash Direct brand increased by 8% in the first half of 2022 as more consumers took advantage of the wide selection of vegetable side dishes made on the farm run by the sixth generation of the family.

To enhance the quality of the water, air, and soil, the firm is also dedicated to environmental management and works to restore farmland and biodiversity. Because all packaging is 100% recyclable, it has reduced its environmental impact and upheld its continued commitment to sustainability. To supply the plant’s activities with sustainable energy, it has created a sizable solar gathering system.

Five of the company’s goods now have green labels, which will aid customers in choosing more environmentally friendly products. From farm to fork, all Mash Direct goods are produced locally, giving the firm complete control over the process.

Mash Direct has joined with non-profit organization Foundation Earth as a crucial component of its dedication to sustainability and the preservation of the environment. Mash Direct has won many UK Great Taste Awards, recognition for food production quality, and Irish National Food Awards.

Established in 2004 as a farm diversification project to ensure long-term survival, Mash Direct was one of the first companies to have signed up to the Foundation Earth pilot scheme, hoping to drive awareness and lead change within the food and drink sector and share a vision for the future encouraging more environmentally friendly innovation from food producers and sustainable choices.
