Kyrgyzstan: field potato prices fall below production cost
Farm-gate prices of 18–20 som per kg — and as low as 12–15 som on Issyk-Kul — have prompted calls for export solutions.
Potato farm-gate prices in Kyrgyzstan have fallen to 18–20 som per kilogram following a strong harvest, and to 12–15 som on Issyk-Kul — below production cost, according to statements by lawmaker Sadyrbaeva and regional reports circulating on 30 September 2026.
The agriculture ministry is in talks with Uzbekistan on export opportunities; Kyrgyzstan has already exported more than 5,000 tonnes of potatoes to Uzbekistan this year.
