Kazakhstan: potato harvest expected at 2.8 million tonnes
Field prices run at 80–110 tenge per kg against a national retail average of 217 tenge, raising farm-margin concerns.
Kazakhstan’s 2026 potato harvest is expected to reach about 2.8 million tonnes, sufficient to cover domestic demand, the agriculture ministry said in comments published on 28 September 2026.
Field prices currently stand at 80–100 tenge per kg, with Karaganda-region farmers selling at 100–110 tenge, while the national retail average is 217 tenge per kg — a gap attributed to trade margins, transport and storage costs.
The ministry cautioned that weather during harvest and the wide gap between field and retail prices remain risk factors: if field prices stay at half the retail level, farmers may be discouraged from expanding production next year.
