Kazakhstan Launches $10 Million Venture for Virus-Free Seed Potato Production
Kazakhstan is making a major leap forward in its agricultural sector with the launch of a large-scale enterprise dedicated to producing virus-free seed potatoes. The ambitious project, backed by an investment of $10 million, is being implemented in partnership with a South Korean company. This collaboration aims to introduce advanced technologies and expertise to establish a modern, high-capacity facility that will significantly boost the country’s domestic seed potato production.
The new enterprise is set to become a key player in the region’s seed market, with a clear goal for the coming years. By 2030, the facility is projected to achieve an annual output of approximately 3,900 tons of G1 category seed potatoes. This volume represents a substantial contribution to meeting the domestic demand for high-quality, disease-free planting material, while also positioning Kazakhstan as a potential exporter of elite seed potatoes in the future. The project highlights the growing importance of international cooperation in strengthening food security and agricultural independence.
