Kazakhstan Expands Vegetable and Potato Storage Capacity to Reduce Losses and Ensure Off-Season Supply

Kazakhstan has commissioned 95 storage facilities with a total capacity of 746,000 tonnes as part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Construction and Modernization of Vegetable Storages. Vice-Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov announced these figures at a government meeting. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the country currently operates 941 vegetable and potato storage facilities with a combined capacity of more than 2.5 million tonnes. By the end of the current year, another 15 storage facilities with a capacity of 129,000 tonnes are planned to be commissioned. Sultanov noted that the measures being taken make it possible to reduce product losses, extend storage periods, and ensure a stable supply of vegetables during the off-season.

The Vice-Minister also reported on the ongoing harvest campaign, stating that 2.9 million tonnes of vegetables, 2.3 million tonnes of melons and gourds, and 2.5 million tonnes of potatoes have been collected so far. These figures underscore Kazakhstan’s efforts to strengthen its agricultural infrastructure and food security by expanding storage capacity and improving the efficiency of its harvest handling. The combination of new storage facilities and active harvesting is expected to help stabilize domestic supply and reduce seasonal price fluctuations in the country’s vegetable and potato markets.
