In Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, the scenic Sambo Sangol Village has launched a weekend farm program inviting 20 families to participate in a hands-on potato harvesting event. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Sambo, known for its “three treasures”—healing water, medicinal herbs, and beneficial minerals—this rural experience village offers city dwellers a unique opportunity to escape urban life and reconnect with agriculture. Participating families are able to dig up potatoes directly from fields lovingly cultivated by local farmers, observing the entire growth process and experiencing the pure joy of harvest. For children, the activity is particularly meaningful: through tactile engagement with soil and plants, they awaken all five senses, gain a deeper appreciation for where food comes from, and learn the true value of nature’s bounty in an authentic, unforgettable setting.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the village organizing committee has assigned professional instructors to guide families throughout the event, providing hands-on assistance and safety supervision for children. Committee Chairman Park Mun-su expressed his hope that families would cherish this meaningful time, harvesting potatoes grown with care while soaking in the warm, rustic atmosphere of village life. “We will continue to operate rural experience programs so that children can safely learn and have fun in nature,” he added. Sambo Sangol Village is not only dedicated to agritourism but has also revitalized abandoned houses and unused facilities, transforming them into modern farmstay accommodations, parks, and recreational areas. Additionally, the village produces popular health-oriented sausages made with red ginseng powder, honey, and pork by-products, which have gained recognition as nutritious and flavorful local specialties. Through these initiatives, Jeungpyeong is building a sustainable model for rural tourism that benefits both visitors and the local community.
