Iscon Balaji Foods: FSSAI Licence Action Concerns a Different Company, Bala Ji Food Products
Iscon Balaji Foods says reports of a suspended FSSAI licence relate to Bala Ji Food Products and have no connection with the Gujarat frozen potato processor.
Iscon Balaji Foods Pvt. Ltd., the Indian maker of frozen French fries and potato specialties, has issued an official statement distancing itself from recent reports about action by India’s food regulator.
“We wish to clarify that the news circulating on online platforms regarding the suspension of an FSSAI licence pertains to Balaji Foods Products and has no connection with our company, Iscon Balaji Foods Pvt. Ltd.,” the company said.
What the regulator did
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has cancelled the licence of a business named in Indian media reports as Bala Ji Food Products. According to a report published on 17 October 2026, the licence was first suspended and later cancelled with immediate effect after inspections found serious violations of food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards, and the company’s explanation at a personal hearing was found unsatisfactory. The same round of FSSAI actions included notices to Nestlé India and Hindustan Unilever over product claims.

The reports on the regulator’s action do not mention Iscon Balaji Foods.
The company’s position
In its statement, Iscon Balaji Foods said it is “committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, hygiene and regulatory compliance” and that it “strictly adhere[s] to all applicable FSSAI standards” alongside its own internal quality standards.
Why the clarification matters
Iscon Balaji Foods is one of India’s largest processors of frozen potato products. In 2023 the company commissioned a greenfield French fries plant in Sabarkantha district, Gujarat, which it described as the largest in India, and it markets frozen potato products under the Hungritos brand. For a supplier to quick-service restaurants and export markets, a similar company name in a food-safety headline can quickly create confusion among customers and partners — which is why the company moved to separate itself from the case.
