High Potato Yields in Kirov Region: 45% of Planted Area Harvested with Above-Average Productivity

Kirov Region farms have cleared 45% of potato area — 13,500+ tonnes from 477 ha at 283 c/ha, far above the 161.1 c/ha three-year average. Planted area grew 9% to 1,068 ha.

Potato harvesting is progressing actively in the Kirov Region, where 45% of the planted area has already been cleared — more than 13,500 tonnes have been collected from 477 hectares. The average yield reached 283 centners per hectare, well above the three-year average of 161.1 centners. This year, agricultural organizations and farms planted potatoes on 1,068 hectares, which is 9% more than a year earlier. At the same time, the bulk of potatoes and vegetables in the region is still grown in private subsidiary plots. Agricultural organizations and farmers account for only about 17% of the total harvest, meaning that household gardens continue to dominate the region’s potato and vegetable production.

Vegetables follow at an earlier stage

Vegetable harvesting in the Kirov Region has also begun, though at an earlier stage. Vegetables have been cleared from 10 hectares — just 4% of the planned area, with the total vegetable area designated for harvesting standing at 245 hectares. So far, mainly beetroot is being collected, while carrot and cabbage harvesting lies ahead. The current average vegetable yield stands at 267 centners per hectare, suggesting a reasonably strong season for the region’s vegetable growers. Taken together, the figures point to a productive year for the Kirov Region’s agricultural sector, with potato yields significantly exceeding recent norms despite the modest share of output coming from organized farms.
