Germany has imported twice as many Dutch consumption and industrial potatoes this season compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO). In May alone, the Netherlands exported a total of 66,700 tonnes of table and processing potatoes—slightly down from April’s 73,600 tonnes—but German purchases exceeded 11,000 tonnes last month, bringing the total for the 2025 harvest to nearly 82,000 tonnes. At the same point in the previous season, that figure stood at just 42,000 tonnes. Overall, the Netherlands has now exported 647,000 tonnes from the 2025 crop, running 1,000 tonnes ahead of last year’s pace.
Belgium remains by far the largest buyer of Dutch potatoes, taking over 39,000 tonnes in May—though that was 8,000 tonnes less than in April. For the season to date, Belgium has imported 320,000 tonnes, which accounts for exactly half of all Dutch exports of consumption and industrial varieties, despite being 25,000 tonnes behind last year’s volume. France ranks third with 52,000 tonnes. Within the EU, total exports stand at 506,000 tonnes, roughly in line with the previous year. Outside Europe, African markets have received 82,000 tonnes, the Americas 58,000 tonnes, and Asia 1,600 tonnes, underscoring the continued strength of Dutch potato exports across global markets.
