European Potato Market Surges as Drought Intensifies, New Harvest Prices Hit Season Highs

The European potato market is experiencing a sharp upward price rally, driven by persistent drought conditions that are severely impacting early crop growth and yields. According to PotatoNL’s weekly update, the prolonged dry spell across the continent is expected to continue, shifting market sentiment firmly toward the new harvest as a critical pricing factor. Processors and traders are actively scrambling for available lots, pushing quotations significantly higher as the physical market seeks a new equilibrium between shrinking old-crop supplies and uncertain new-crop prospects.

The latest PotatoNL quotations reflect this bullish momentum, with notable double-digit gains across all categories. Fritesfit cat. 1 jumped by €4.00 to a range of €10.00–15.00, while cat. 2 and Fresh Fries saw increases of €3.50–€4.50, reaching €12.00–20.00. Fast Food rose by €3.50 to €15.00, and Regular Frites posted the largest leap—from €7.75 to €10.00–15.00—marking the highest prices for the outgoing 2025–2026 season. Additionally, initial transactions for the new harvest have already taken place at elevated price levels, underscoring the market’s tightening fundamentals and the growing premium on immediate supply.
