Elite seed potatoes of the highest categories—elite and super-elite—are being exported from the Kaliningrad region to other parts of Russia. According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, these special varieties, grown by the agricultural group “Atlantis,” are used exclusively for producing french fries and potato wedges in fast-food chains. The ministry also clarified that local vegetable growers use only table varieties of seed potatoes, which are later sold in Kaliningrad’s retail stores. Officials assured that farmers in the region are fully supplied with seed material for potatoes and vegetables.
Since the beginning of 2026, 1,700 tons of seed potatoes have been sent from Kaliningrad to other regions, with the largest shipments going to Kursk, Moscow, and Tambov regions. Atlantis began growing elite potatoes in 2023, preparing 1,744 hectares for planting special varieties. The company, one of the largest producers of semi-finished products in the region, was acquired by Indian investors in 2014. Its facilities in the Bagrationovsky district produce frozen poultry, fish, and seafood products, dry mixes, breadcrumbs, and wheat flour, which are exported to the EU, China, Vietnam, India, and other countries.
