The potato market in Brazil is experiencing a strong rebound. In the city of Belo Horizonte (BH), the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, wholesale prices for the tuber have registered an increase of over 40%, marking the third consecutive week of significant growth in its commercial value.
Quality and producing regions drive the market
According to wholesale sector reports, this significant price hike is directly related to supply dynamics and the outstanding quality of the product currently entering the markets.
Merchants and middlemen indicate that tubers from key regions such as Guarapuava (Paraná), Água Doce (Santa Catarina), the Cerrado, and southern Minas Gerais are showing excellent commercial conditions. This high quality has helped to maintain and push prices upward at the main wholesale distribution centers (CEASA).
Projections for the rest of May
The short-term outlook suggests that the firmness in the market will remain. Looking ahead to the remainder of May, analysts and wholesalers predict that potato prices will continue their upward trend or, in the most conservative scenario, remain stable at these new elevated levels.
