Belarus Reports 10% of Potato Area Harvested with Average Yield of 356 Centners/Ha
According to the latest operational data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, the country’s potato harvest is underway, with 10% of the planned area now cleared. Farmers have dug up 78,000 tonnes of potatoes at an average yield of 356 centners per hectare (35.6 tonnes/ha). Regional breakdown shows Mogilev Oblast leading the way with 32,000 tonnes, followed by Brest (16,000), Minsk (11,000), Gomel (9,000), Vitebsk (6,000), and Grodno (4,000 tonnes). The figures reflect early progress in the northern and central belts, while southern regions are still catching up after a drier summer season.
Notably, the average yield has gradually declined from 370 centners/ha at the very start of the campaign (when only 6% of the area was harvested) to the current 356 centners/ha. This downward trend is attributed to the inclusion of southern districts, which suffered from summer drought conditions that impacted tuber development. As harvesting expands geographically, the national average may adjust further, though early totals suggest a solid, if not record-breaking, season ahead. Agronomists are closely monitoring soil moisture and tuber quality as operations move into full swing across all six regions.
