400 tonnes of potatoes imported from India through Benapole Land Port are scheduled to be released on 18th March 24, following their arrival in two shipments on Saturday evening. The Bangladesh government granted permission for the import to help stabilize the market. The Director of Benapole Land Port confirmed this, noting that the potatoes were transported by 16 Indian trucks. Integrated Food and Beverages is the importer of the potatoes, with PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt Ltd serving as the exporting company.
To maintain a normal supply chain, the government of Bangladesh has already authorized the import of rice, pulses, wheat, eggs, onions, and green chilies. The import cost of the potatoes per tonne is US$194, and the consignments will be delivered on Monday.
Deputy Assistant Officer of Benapole Port Plant Pest Control Centre, mentioned that the release of the potatoes will be allowed after a quality test upon submission of the necessary documents by the importer. Furthermore, Benapole Land Port Director instructed field officials to expedite the clearance and delivery of the potatoes.
Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Customs House, indicated that although Friday and Saturday were off due to the weekend and Sunday is a public holiday, the potato shipments will be released on Monday.
